XLPE Insulated Wire & Cable
XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) is a thermoset insulation used on copper conductors for lighting, power, and general electrical applications where durability and electrical performance are critical.
It is flame-retardant, zero-halogen, moisture-resistant, and built to withstand harsh environments.
Why XLPE Insulation Is Used
The cross-linking process creates a three-dimensional molecular bond within the insulation. This structure improves resistance to:
- Heat deformation
- Abrasion and physical wear
- Chemicals and moisture
- Stress cracking over time
XLPE also has “shape memory,” allowing it to return to its original form when exposed to heat after deformation.
Construction
- Material: Stranded bare or tinned copper conductor (conforms to ASTM Spec B-3 and B-8)
- Insulation: Flame-retardant Polyethylene (XLPE), low smoke, zero halogens (conforms to UL 44)
- Operating Temperature: 90°C
- Emergency Rating: 140°C
- Conductor short-circuit rating: 250°C
- Rating: 1000 volt
